Monthly Wrap-Up: August 2019

Hi, everyone! It’s time for another monthly wrap-up. I’ve been extremely happy with my reading since last July. Although I didn’t read as much in August, it was still pretty good if you compare the stat to the other previous months!

what i read

Sadly, no five-star read last month!

four-star (★★★★)

📑 100 Days of Sunlight by Abbie EmmonsReview • A re-read and definitely one of my favorite contemporary this year!
📑 Bumi Manusia by Pramoedya Ananta ToerReview • I’m so glad to finally pick this up and also watch the adaptation.
📑 Hurricane Season by Nicole MellebyReview • I certainly didn’t expect that I’d enjoy this one so much!

three-star (★★★)

📑 Heartstopper: Volume 1 by Alice Oseman • I definitely had a higher expectation for this, but it was just okay for me.
📑 Heartstopper: Volume 2 by Alice Oseman • I like that the story focused a bit more on Nick in this volume.
📑 She’s the Worst by Lauren Spieller • This was so freaking intense to read! I enjoyed the drama, though.

two-star (★★)

📑 Carnegie Hill by Jonathan VatnerReview • What I was hoping to be a story of candidness, life struggles, and inspiring resolution, turns out to be flat and easily forgotten.
📑 Little Lovely Things by Maureen Joyce ConnollyReview • Beautiful proses, unfortunately, I personally don’t think it’s suitable for this genre.
📑 Radio Dark by Shane HintonReview • It could be better with more action packs, tbh.

one-star (★)

📑 The Love Solution by Ashley CroftReview • I have too many complaints to be included in one sentence…

TOTAL BOOKS I READ IN 2019 SO FAR: 61 BOOKS

YOUR TURN! HOW’S LAST MONTH GOING FOR YOU?

  1. I also read 10 books last month, which I was super happy with! I read volume 1 of Heartstopper, and I loved it a lot. It was simple, but I loved getting to know the characters, and some parts were just so wholesome, it was perfect ♥ I can definitely see why you rated it 3 stars however. I’m curious to read volume 2! I hope you have a lovely month of September Vinny!

I’m glad to know that you enjoyed Heartstopper, Noémie! I didn’t particulary hate it, whatsoever, I guess I just had a high expecatation about it, especially since I’m a big fan of Radio Silence and I was having a great time with I Was Born for This.

And YAY! Here’s to reading more awesome books in September! I’ve been eyeing a few titles and hoping they’d be a five-star read for me! Good luck with your reading this month, Noémie!

      1. I totally understand high expectations, it’s happened to me so many times to be disappointed by a book because of it. I try not to, but sometimes it’s hard to avoid 😦

Ahh, I wish it was, Hamad! But I’d respectfully disagree! I’m not a very fast reader, so 10 books are a huge number for me. But genre-wise, I completely understand why you’d say that! Haha!

18 books?! That’s HUGE, Erin! Congrats!

Isn’t? I’m a big fan of Alice, but I’m disappointed when I discovered that it’s just an okay read for me. Hopefully, I have better luck with her next book!

Have an awesome reading month too, Erin!

Thank you! I love Alice too. I’ve fallen out of love with that series a little bit, which disappoints me 😊 Hopefully this month will be good for reading!
